LSSAC has been working in close collaboration with Communities Unlimited, a local Community Development Financial Institutions (also known as CDFIs) to design a Micro-Loan Program that directly benefits fruit and vegetable farmers in Louisiana.

Small Farm Micro-Loan Program (also known as the FLP) launches this year, 2025!

What is this program?

The Small Farm Micro-Loan Program (FLP) is designed for Louisiana small farm businesses that are actively growing and selling fresh fruits and vegetables into direct to consumer or intermediated markets in Louisiana; with an emphasis on unprocessed products, but will consider applications that include some value added processing.

The FLP is specifically designed to

  1. financially assist non-bankable businesses; and

  2. is paired with Technical Assistance (TA) and/or business coaching in order to help build sustainable and profitable small farm businesses that are vital to a stable food system that is deeply rooted in equity and justice for all.

In some cases our goal is to build bankable businesses through this micro-lending program but this isn’t a requirement for all applicants.

How much loan can I apply for?

The FLP will, in deep collaborative partnership with Communities Unlimited (a CDFI based in Arkansas, serving seven Southeastern states, and a history of successful lending work in Louisiana) provide an initial fund with which CU will make business loans ranging in value from $500 - $20,000.

How do I apply to the Small Farm micro-loan Program ?

Please click here to fill out a form to request a Micro-Loan consultation with a member of LSSAC.

This form is not a loan application and will not run a credit check.

The FLP requires a communicative and collaborative relationship with a Technical Assistance Coach in the application process, as well as in the loan repayment stage.

Be prepared to share and learn together through this program!
