About us

The Louisiana Small Scale Agriculture Coalition (LSSAC) is composed of a Steering Committee of long-time Louisiana food systems support non-profits with an established history of deep partnership working collectively, and with many additional stakeholder partners in various Subcommittees, on the many issues faced by direct marketing specialty crop producers across Louisiana to ensure farm business livelihoods and fresh, local food access across the state.

Formalized in 2022, current partners include Fightingville Fresh (Acadiana Southwest), Shreveport Green (North), Shreveport Green (Central), Big River Economic and Agricultural Development Alliance (Capital), Sprout (Southeast), Market Umbrella (Greater New Orleans), the Louisiana Food Policy Council (Statewide) and Hummingbird Springs Farm (Statewide Tribal Nations). This deep partnership has demonstrated working relationships with community development finance institutions, state departments, and other national and regional food system support organizations.

The Louisiana Small Scale Agriculture Coalition (LSSAC) addresses the root causes of an under-active specialty crop agricultural economy in Louisiana, providing critical support in on-farm technical assistance, farm business coaching services, infrastructure investment, land access, labor assistance, and market stabilization programs. LSSAC was convened formally upon the launch of the Local Food Procurement Assistance (LFPA) program, but collaborative work between partners existed long before that (decades in some cases) to collectively leverage solutions that address the barriers faced by specialty crop producers in Louisiana.
